So here it is. Vote for whatever you think best describes it to you.

I guess it needs little introduction other than to say it is a Steel Daytona model number 16520 from 1995. This model used an adapted Zenith movement so is a little more unusual than the current production model which is now equipped with an in-house movement (Zenith movement pieces have black subdial rings, Rolex movement has silver rings).

It was a major decision to go for this watch and it has meant flipping a number of old (and new) favourites but was it worth it?

Tops for me, especially with the Zenith movement. I've worn this watch several times (A couple of my freinds have this same watch) and while I think it is a bit pricey it was a VERY nice timepiece!

It's on my list (not my short list, but my long list).

Simon, it's very nice. I voted stonking, although that is not my absolute favourite dial choice. But despite the Daytona hype and frenzied prices for some, I really like them. Good choice to go for the Zenith movement one. I would love an old one - 6263 (I think?) but I think my wife would notice if I sold her car!!

So Dave, what is your "absolute favourite dial choice"? Let's see some pic's.

Let's also see if we can create some of our own hype.

Well I would prefer the black dial in the 16520, but I would REALLY like this 6239 from 1967.
First pic courtesy of ponycar350 from VRF, second from Wannabuyawatch (really THE place to look to drool over unobtainable Rolexes).

I went middle ground but only coz I don't like the white dial or all the polish. The rest is very cool!

Thanks guys. So it would seem that I should've gone for the black dialled version! Oh well, all my other watches have black dials and I fancied something different for special occasions.

It really isn't quite that bling in the flesh. I just couldn't resist that shot as I thought I'd get some bling comments.

Don't get me wrong Simon, it is a very, very classy watch and the best of the modern Daytonas up until the new ones. Great buy!

What did you think of the mail I sent you......?

Hi Alistair,

Yes,  and  all comments are always welcome.  At the end of the day it's all about taste and opinion and talking these through is part of the fun!

And so to the mail. You won't be surprised to learn that I am very taken by it although I've tried not to think about it too much. I told myself (and others) that the I will cool things off for a while so I don't want to start thinking about the other one. The trouble is, I know that once I latch onto something, if I really want it I will not rest until I get it.

Here's the ironic thing. Having picked up the Daytona last weekend, this week I received a letter from a nice man in Bexley UK telling me that they had spoken to my local AD and had persuaded them to put me on the list for a new Daytona. Apparently, I can expect a call sometime in the next 3 years! This doesn't seem very much but have you tried to get on the list? They don't even have one in  most places. Like waiting for a bus. You wait for 3 years and then 2 come along at once!!

So in short, I think I will have to pass on the idea in the mail. I am still thinking about a stock unit, something like Dave J has would be v nice.

Thanks for thinking of me though.

Well, I'm flabbergasted! Simon liking something I do also??!?? Who'da thunk it?
Seriously, I like your Daytona, and I would not be at all displeased to wear it, but I just like the black dials slightly more.
Well done (I think) to get on that waiting list!!

Thanks Dave. I do like your Bremont, it oozes a kind of easy style.

As I've had to let a few watches go recently (one to Oz) I am starting to get concerned again about the magnetic polar imbalance caused by redistributing the iron around the world. From memory, I think you collection must out-number mine now so I think it would only right if you let me have one or two of yours to look after.

I reckon the Bremont and one of the Doxa's should just about do it... Come on, you know it makes sense. Think of it as saving the planet!

I was going to say something about the photo of you and your sister but I thought better of it. After all, I wouldn't want you to set Satan on me.
