The idea of forums is for people to meet discuss and share ideas about watches, old new, blue, green anything! The site is largely for chronograph enthusiasts, but that does not mean that you cannot post about other types of watches just as long as they are interesting in their own way. Discuss ‘Off topic’ subjects not relating to the watch world and post your pictures too See Forum Guide for advice.

Loving the cool wall, very, very good idea. Haven't voted much yet, but will do soon.

As Gary has already broached the subject of Japanese watches, with success, I thought I'd canvas views on another one, which doesn't necessarily follow Al's assertion of nicking designs. It is, perhaps a little more contentious, as seiko's dive output is pretty universally regarded as peerless value, which is in itself cool, but I'll try it anyway, as a bit of variety never hurt anyone (much).

It is a Bellmatic, from 1968, although they were released in 1967.
Technically very advanced for its age, it has day as well as date, automatic winding, and an alarm relatively discretely set via bezel rather than hand. All operated with one crown, and a push-button. This includes quick-set date. I think that is pretty cool, but alarm watches are not usually the fare at ATG, so I know I am on thin ice.

Here it is

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I am selling it soon to raise further funds, so you can be as honest as I know you will be.
Is it to be a Leslie Phillips style Ding-Dong, a relatively receptive Dingaling, or a resounding thud? I think I can guess.

Have your say....

Aaahh Dave, I've had lots of these, and they're great!! They are so robust, and very understated, so definitely a Ding Dong! 27 jewel model should sell quickly too. Nice one.

I've never had a Bell-Matic but what's not to like? I mean a 27 jewel complication from 1968 just has to be applauded. Yet another example of the Japanese making precision engineering available to everyone, surely that has to be a good thing, right?

My favourite (and unfortunately probably the hardset to come by) is this example, a 4005 with date only:

Very understated and a definite ding dong in my book.

Cheers,

Gary
